St. Augustine - the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in the contiguous United States.
St. Augustine is the oldest city in Florida, it is also the oldest continuously occupied settlement of European origin in the United States. The city was originally founded as a Spanish colony in 1565 by admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, who became the first colonial governor of Florida. Under Spain’s rule, St. Augustine served as the base for Spain to continue its colonial expansion and it was eventually designated as the capital of Spanish Florida.

St Augustine is a wonderful location for daytime and nighttime photo shoots. We recommend that you consider taking the 1-2 hours Trolley Tour around the town. In addition to the individual locations below, walking Saint Georges Street at night offers a plethora of photo ops. The best time to start is around 9:30 pm at the city gates (across from Castillo de San Marcos} and proceed to walk to the end taking photos of all the shops and stores at night. after the crowds have thinned out. Most of the lights in the city are left on all night so you never run out of interesting things to shoot.

Best places for sunrise

1. Bridge of Lions (SR, NT, LS)
Blue hour and sunrise are the best to shoot the lions themselves. Lots of photo ops in this area. ( many homeless in the morning sleeping nearby so be polite )
2. Saint Augustine Fishing Pier
A short drive outside of the city but worth it if you want to get the sunrise on the beach. Nice pier shape and parking for a quick shot.
3. Castillo de San Marcos
Within walking distance of the Bridge of Lions, The oldest masonry fort in the US has great shots of the sun rising over it and parking is easy. Many photo ops walking around the fort, structure, cannons, etc. Lighting is great at golden hour also.

Best places for Architecture

1. Lightner Museum
Both interior and exterior photography at this site in good. A wide-angle lens is recommended for the exterior shots.
2. Flagler College
Beautiful exterior shot but really have to have a wide-angle lens. This provides excellent opportunities for daytime and nighttime
3. Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine Interior photography allowed most of the day. Not one of my favorites but worth seeing. Exterior is not that exciting.

4. Memorial Presbyterian Church
The beautiful old church inside and out is really worth shooting. You will need a wide-angle lens (fast lens or high ISO) for the interior.
5. The lighthouse of Saint Augustine
Interior shots of the lighthouse are really good and have great views from the top. A park fee is required to enter the lighthouse from the gift shop. The exterior can be shot up close but taking from a distance is a little harder because the lighthouse is surrounded by trees.
6. Saint Augustine brewery
Just a fun interesting place to shoot interior photos, especially for those who enjoy process equipment and interior photos. The tasting room atmosphere is worth capturing (along with sipping their complementary wines). Gift shop on premises.
